Part of: Paying in Indonesia
Canggu and Ubud split Bali’s working month between them. Canggu has the island’s densest nomad infrastructure: coworking spaces, café-coworks, laptop cafés and gyms within a short ride of each other, and Nomads.com, which ranks places by member check-ins, put it third in the world by estimated remote workers in June 2026. Ubud is the quieter rival inland, with a smaller community and a higher overall score on the same site. The clock is the other half of the decision. Bali keeps Perth’s and Singapore’s time, which suits Australia and Asia, works for Europe if you work into the evening, and is hard on US hours.

Desks are easy to find in Canggu and harder to keep track of. The scene turns over fast, so treat every name below as a place to check before you go.
Desks, cafés and a backup line
Book a coworking desk for the calls
BWork on Jalan Nelayan is the big, established space, with focus and meeting rooms, a café, a pool and a gym, and it lists a second site on Jalan Labuansait in Uluwatu. Its address online is bwork.id now; the old domain no longer works. Nomads.com reviewers warn that Bali's spaces open and close often, so message before you cross town, and get prices from the operator.
Use Canggu's café-coworks
The line between café and coworking is thin here. ZIN Cafe on Jalan Nelayan has a coworking area beside the café, ZIN@Work, with no membership. Blou Cafe, a restaurant on Jalan Canggu Padang Linjong, has a coworking space upstairs.
Work Ubud from its cafés
Ubud's best-known coworking name of the last decade, Hubud, says on its own site that it closed during COVID, so start with the cafés. Clear Cafe on Jalan Hanoman runs a weekly language class and chess days. Seniman Coffee Studio on Jalan Sriwedari has roasted specialty coffee since 2010, with a second studio in Renon, Denpasar.
Bring your own backup line
Treat the villa wifi as unproven until you've seen a speed test. Fiber providers such as Biznet, MyRepublic and CBN publish coverage checkers, but the host knows the actual line, so ask which one the house is on. Keep a local data SIM topped up as the line that catches a dropped call, and a power bank in the bag. On May 2, 2025, an island-wide blackout cut power across Bali until the next day, and the UK's travel advice notes power cuts in the rainy season.
Bali runs on Central Indonesia Time, WITA, UTC+8, with no daylight saving. That’s level with Perth and two hours behind Brisbane, the best fit of any team’s clock. London is seven or eight hours behind, depending on the season, and Central Europe six or seven, so a Bali afternoon and evening line up with a European morning. The US is the hard case: New York sits twelve or thirteen hours behind and the West Coast fifteen or sixteen, so a US standup lands in a Bali night or before dawn. If you work to American hours from here, pick one end of the day for them and protect the other.

Bali keeps Perth's clock. Europe gets your evening; New York gets your dawn.
Plan for two kinds of downtime. The wet season, roughly October to April and heaviest from December to March, brings floods and power cuts as well as rain, and the worst flooding in years came in September 2025, at the end of the dry months, when the road from Denpasar through Kerobokan to Canggu went under water. Nyepi, the day of silence in March, is a forced day off: the island stops, the airport closes, and in 2025 the province switched off mobile data for the day. Put it in your team’s calendar early. On the paperwork side, Bali’s 2025 code of conduct for visitors says not to work or do business without the proper permits, and the question of which visa fits your situation belongs on Indonesia’s official e-visa portal, evisa.imigrasi.go.id, not in a guide.
As for money admin, an Indonesian bank account is at the bank’s discretion and generally expects residency documents, and the local e-wallets are built around an Indonesian phone number and ID checks, so neither is a quick errand for a visitor. Paying a QRIS code at the counter with Yodl works differently: verify in the app first, hold stablecoins in a wallet you control, then scan the code at the counter and check the rupiah amount; a licensed local partner pays the merchant in rupiah. Keep small notes for the warungs without a code. How to pay in Indonesia covers it, and the Bali places directory lists the cafés and coworks by area.
Mistakes to avoid
Crossing town to a space that closed
Older roundups still send people to Dojo Bali in Canggu, which says on its own site that it closed in December 2022, and to Hubud in Ubud, closed since COVID. Outsite no longer lists Canggu at all. Check the operator's own page or message them before you go.
Booking a villa on its wifi promise
Crowd-sourced speeds for Canggu and Ubud read like shared wifi, not fiber. Ask the host for a speed test and the name of the line before you pay a deposit, and run the important calls from a coworking desk.
Expecting a US-friendly workday
Bali sits twelve or more hours ahead of New York. If your team is in the Americas, decide early which end of the Bali day you'll give them, and build the rest of the job around async habits.
Leaving no slack for the weather
Wet-season storms bring floods, power cuts and traffic, and Nyepi switches the island off for a day. Keep a power bank and a data SIM in the bag, and don't schedule a launch on Nyepi.
Common questions
Is the internet good enough to work from Bali?
For most work, yes, if you choose the room. The speeds members report on nomad ranking sites for Canggu and Ubud read like café and villa wifi rather than fiber, and villa lines can slow at peak times. Before you book, ask the host for a speed test, and ask whether the house is on a fiber line. Run important calls from a coworking desk, keep a local data SIM as the backup line, and carry a power bank, because the wet season brings power cuts.
Canggu or Ubud for remote work?
Canggu for the infrastructure and the people: it has the island's densest spread of coworking spaces, laptop cafés and gyms, and one nomad ranking site counted it third in the world by estimated remote workers in June 2026. Ubud for a quieter month: a smaller community, a walkable center, cafés that suit a morning's work, and a higher overall score on the same site.
What's the time difference between Bali and Australia, Europe and the US?
Bali runs on Central Indonesia Time (WITA), UTC+8, with no daylight saving, the same clock as Perth, Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila. It's level with Perth, two hours behind Brisbane, and two or three behind Sydney and Melbourne depending on their daylight saving. London is seven or eight hours behind, Central Europe six or seven, so a Bali afternoon and evening meets a European morning. New York is twelve or thirteen hours behind and the West Coast fifteen or sixteen, which means very late nights or very early mornings for US-facing work.
Where can I cowork in Canggu?
BWork on Jalan Nelayan is the large, established one, with focus and meeting rooms, a café, a pool and a gym, and it lists a second site on Jalan Labuansait in Uluwatu; its site is bwork.id now. ZIN Cafe on the same street has a coworking area beside the café with no membership. Blou Cafe on Jalan Canggu Padang Linjong has a coworking space upstairs. Spaces in Bali open and close often, so message any of them before you cross town.
Do I need an Indonesian bank account or e-wallet for a working month?
Opening an Indonesian bank account as a visitor is at the bank's discretion and generally expects residency documents, and the local e-wallets are built for residents, around an Indonesian phone number and ID checks. For paying a QRIS code with Yodl, you verify in the app first and hold stablecoins in a wallet you control; at the counter you scan the code, check the rupiah amount, and a licensed local partner pays the merchant in rupiah.
